01 — Entry Requirements
Visa & Entry
Most international travelers require visa clearance before arriving. As a licensed Bhutanese tour operator, SD Travels Bhutan handles the entire process for you.
Visa Clearance
Arranged through SD Travels once your package is confirmed and payment is complete.
Fees
A USD 40 visa fee applies; the visa is officially stamped upon arrival.
Processing Time
Usually processed within 72 working hours.
Special Exemptions
Nationals from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives can obtain an entry permit on arrival.
Required Documents

Passport Copy
Clear copy of the bio-page with at least 6 months validity remaining.

Photograph
A recent passport-sized photo.

Travel Insurance
Proof of valid travel insurance for the duration of your stay.

02 — Beyond Thimphu
Permits & Restricted Access
While Thimphu and Paro are easily accessible, exploring deeper into Bhutan requires specific authorizations.
Special Area Permits
Required for travel beyond Thimphu and Paro to help protect natural landscapes and cultural heritage.
Guided Travel Requirement
Visitors must travel with licensed guides in restricted regions to ensure safety and preserve Bhutan’s environment.
Cultural Site Access
Entry to monasteries, dzongs, and heritage sites may require special permissions and must follow local guidelines.
03 — Adventure
Trekking & Adventure Travels
Bhutan offers some of the world’s most scenic Himalayan trekking routes, many of which require special trekking permits.
All trekking tours must be accompanied by certified guides and managed through a registered operator like SD Travels Bhutan.
